In 2006, Allie Edwards started a tradition of picking one word to focus, meditate and reflect on for the year. This tradition has bloomed into One Little Word. It is something I attempted to work on a couple of years back but never saw it to fruition. I have a tendency to run full warp speed into an idea/project/whatever without really sticking to it or have an all out lack of discipline and follow through!
I wanted to focus my creative flow on to a project this year that didn’t involve setting up another planner. I can do that anytime. I thought of a couple of things like hand lettering but kept coming back to #OLW. Allie’s website has a year-long course for #OLW that offers structured online class format as well as a thriving Facebook community. This allows me to work at my own pace but still have people I can interact with.
The website also offers all sorts of products to get your started. For this year, I opted to get the notebook and the Main Kit. It allows me to have a more journal like experience with my word. The kit includes journal cards, embellishments, stickers and study cards. And all of it comes in a neutral tone which I am totally into right now. This year, if you are so inclined, you can also have your word made into a jewelry piece. How incredibly delightful is that? I would have jumped on this but I’m not a girl who wears gold.
Once you have a word in mind, the course will lead you into cultivating a reason why you chose the word, an invitation to your word and even defining your word. What did I pick for 2018? Stop. As in STOP self sabotage, complaining, overspending, overeating, making excuses, and most importantly blaming. I wanted my word to help me progress to my “next level’ in my spiritual, mental and physical well-being. Stop the nasty habits that lead me to self-doubt and build new ones that lead me into self-assurance.
I am really looking forward to what this word has in store for me in 2018. Are you in? Did you pick a word? Let me know in the comments below.
