What am I doing now?

This was going to be a post on how frustrated I am with my illness and how it gets in the way of my “life”. I trashed it. Fact is, I’m ill and it’s frustrating. I had to remind my self, “take it day by day Lissy.” Nothing grows over night unless you have some magic beans and there’s suddenly a bean stalk right outside your door.

So I must remind myself…

#OneBookJuly – Weekly Pages

My weekly section has been though quite a few changes in the three weeks of #OneBookJuly2016. I have dedicated the weekly section for my #sidehustle side of life (blogging, YouTube, & direct sales) in hopes of having a better organized life. I will show “after the pen” on my IG account and on next weeks video.

Prepping for a Spending Freeze

A no…what?

Stop laughing, I can do this. I’ve tried before but failed. So why am I trying this again (in August, all thirty-one days). I failed before because I did not prep for battle. As always, I galloped toward the melee of “I’m going to do this” with out properly out-fitting myself with the battle plan.

Ok, Lissy, what is so different this time.  Well, let me introduce Ruth Soukop to you. She the wonderful lady behind the blog Living Well Spending Less and the author of Unstuffed. I’ve been following her for about a year when I came across her 31 day spending freeze challenge (you know I love me a challenge).

This year, I picked August for my Spending Freeze. This is mostly due to the fact that I don’t have any holiday’s, birthday’s or appointments for the month. I equipped myself with all the emails that came with the challenge in three-ring binder and have begun my prep.

First step – don’t stock up. Use what ya got, or do without! (or borrow, barter, exchange)

Second Step – Inventory your resources. Check the pantry, freezer, you know the drill!

Third Step – Menu plan. Ugh, srsly, this is the worst step ever! I’m working on this prep step now. By the end of July I will have a meal plan for my breakfast and lunches…oy!

Forth Step – Give yourself an End Goal – Mine, I would like to put what I have saved towards my emergency savings.

Fifth Step – Do the activities recommended in the challenge (you can also pick up a kindle version of the challenge on Amazon.)

Sixth Step – Motivate yourself! I picked out some Dave Ramey quotes to add to the days that I’m thinking of tapping out of the challenge.

Seventh Step – Clear your schedule of money inducing commitments. Let your friends know that you’ll be staying in, celebrating financial success and you’ll have beers with them next month.

So, you up for the challenge?  If so, follow me on twitter with the hashtag #DFKFreeze2016, I’ll be posting daily of my trials and tribulations of the challenge starting August 1st!

One Book July – Monthly View

Hello again, here’s week two of the #oneBookJuly2016 challenge

Just a quick video showing a comparison of my monthly Midori calendar to the Hobonichi. Keeping it pretty streamline with only showing appointments, re-occurring tasks, meetings, birthday’s and special events. Leaving the nitty-gritty of planning to the weekly and daily pages.

Frida Kahlo – Feliz Cumpleanos

I recently picked up Issue 13 of Flow magazine (it’s a Dutch magazine for all paper lovers!) with the work of Frida on the cover.

Today I celebrate a woman who I consider almost a patron saint of chronic illness. Frida Kahlo. I’m not here to write about her bastard of a husband, politics or love life. I want to express how this woman (along with my mother, sister and Elizabeth Gilbert) has given me my permission slip to be a creative.

Thru her entire life, Frida dealt with illness (polio as a child) and pain from a very horrible automobile accident. It was during her accident recovery that she was confined to her bed and decided not to just lay about but to do something! She began to paint.

I have no excuse to hold back from being a creative creature by blogging, re-arranging a room, having a pretty planner or to learning to water color. Don’t let your illness hold you back from anything. It took me way too long in life to embrace even a fraction of the creative person I am.

If Frida can lay in a bed and paint. I can lay in my bed and write…right?
