Pinterest is awesome. I love perusing the pins from peeps all over the world. Not only do I get an opportunity to see what interests my friends but I also get to find new and creative ways to change my world. I have seen a lot of blogs lately with peeps taking a pin and re-creating it in their own home.  So, here is my contribution. Small projects first, cuz that is how I roll. One my very first inspirations was from All Things Homie. We all have these rather ordinary thermostats that take up space, usually in the hallway. Taking a decorative frame to it, it then becomes exceptional.

I was rather lucky one day while venturing through Marshall’s. I found a gold decorative frame. For three dollars!!! I was so excited to find some something so quickly. I knew instantly that I could re-create one of my first pins. However, it almost didn’t happen. Unbeknownst to me, the glass was cracked and they didn’t want to sell it to me. Even a manager got involved. I basically said, “I don’t care about the glass but the frame is going home with me”…and it did! I was truly lucky as it fit perfectly! (I didn’t measure the space prior to finding the frame…so dang lucky!)

I secured mine with command strips and it makes me smile each time I see it. I thought about painting it white but white the apartments, I thought the difference would make it more of an eyesore. I left it in the gold and it looks great.

There are so many Pins in my DIY section that I am making this a regular posting. it’s tome to get creative!

Very creative idea to make the ordinary exceptional

It’s complete! The new bedroom and office set up is finished. With the help of a couple of my friends, the furniture was moved and within three days I was able to get everything in it’s place.

For this red0, I decided to do something different.  I recently began watching The Amandas on the Style Network. It showcases a very OCD Amanda LeBlanc and her Amandas as they organize the South. In heels. And dresses! So I donned on my little black and white dress for a portion of my organizing. Umm…the heels lasted about forty minutes! The dress was actually comfortable and I actually enjoyed wearing it as I worked. I even helped the Bestie upload the moving van while in the very same dress!

I am very happy with how things turned out. I am still working on the whole boho look. I still see a lot of romantic floral in my decorating. I will just have to pass it off as boho romantic vintage…that works, right?

Below are the final pictures of the room redo’s. I wasn’t so on the ball on getting before shots, so it’s only the after’s you get this time. Next month we are on to the bathroom.

I will always love my bestie at Musings of a F.I.N.E mOnkey for introducing me to this weeks link. The Bloggess. Yep, it’s this weeks only link. She deserves to share this post with no one else! She makes me laugh and she has even made me cry. She may not be everyone’s cup of tea but I adore her humor, her fragility and her ever giving abundant heart.

Recently, she revealed her struggle with depression, self harm and about dealing with her issues with anxiety. Dealing with the adrenal issues has me running the gamut of emotional ups and downs. I have also dealt with clinical depression the last couple of years so hear someone as popular as her admit to such dark truths…I knew I was not alone. She has given us all some silver linings of hope (see it here) and her generosity started a movement called the Traveling Red Dress.

Give Jenny a try!  Learn about Beyonce {The Metal Chicken}, Juanita, her book, her audio book and her dear poor husband Victor. I hope you appreciate her just as much as I do

I headed over to Ace Hardware this past weekend to get my free quart of Clark+Kensington flat enamel paint. I picked the color Milky Way for a future project that I have for the home office.  As I wait rather impatiently for my Sunday paper to be delivered, I went through all my supplies in my tool box. For some reason, I have four sets of Allen wrenches (good for those of us that purchase items from Ikea), three sets of screw drivers, various washers, and tools I have no idea what they do.

Smaller tool box for home maintenance and larger one for DIY items

All the various items I have accumulated over the last few years

I recently found a Sears Craftsman metal tool box at the thrift shop for about $6.99 which I have deemed the DIY tool box. I cleaned it up and added the following items to have for all my DIY projects:

  • One set of screwdrivers
  • Allen wrench
  • box cutter
  • Hammer
  • picture hanging kit and various sized nails
  • putty knives
  • level
  • cork pads
  • paint brushes
  • paint can key

The household tool box will have the following:

  • hammer
  • Allen wrench
  • screwdrivers
  • wrench set
  • pipe cutter
  • putty guides
  • box cutter
  • wire cutters
  • molly screws
  • crow bar*
  • sledge hammer*

*these will live outside the tool box since they are large items

I pretty much have what I need to do small maintenance for the apartment and get a good start on my DIY projects. Nothing says empowered like a girl with tools!

The launch of JJDouglasPaperCo happened months ago…now I am gearing up for a re-launch. I am reading every small business book I can get my hands on. I am pretty much doing things backwards. Like having product prior to having all the foundation pieces completed. Did you know that you are still required to have  state license even if you do transaction via the internet? and this includes a city license! I do now.

There are hundreds of little details that I will be working out over the next few months. April’s goals will be concentrating on setting up the work space, May is all the legal issues (licensing) plus branding and June will be a flurry of production for all things paper with a re-launch in July!

I will be adding a new section of my Etsy shop too. My mother is making handmade handbags! Branching out already!

Now I am off to write out the to do lists!

The temporary roomie is closing on her first house this week. I am so excited for her! I remember my first home purchase and to this day, I still love that little home. I miss it beyond measure. I am not a place financially to move or purchase another home so here I will stay.

There is progress on my switchover here at Dragonfly Keep. I started a layout for the new rooms. I found a room planner kit online at Life…Your Way. I had to adjust some of the items but it got all the pieces to fit. The layouts are standard but can be re-configured to what you have in your home.

Over the next couple of weeks I am hoping to get some of these items moved. These are the days I wish I were a wizard and could get this all completed in a blink of an eye. Instead, I am going to call in the brute forced and get it all done.

Sadly, my rest, respite, or uber-nap filled leave of absence has been denied. I will be heading back to work on Monday. Despite my best efforts, my rest time has been cut short. I am at very scary cross roads right now and am not sure the best path to take. I do know, I am not going to let this job kill me.

I will be staying where I am at and have a doctor’s note limiting my overtime. I will continue with the therapies, eating right, resting and taking my vitamins.

This diagnosis has thrown me a few lemons, I can only make lemonade. Right?

I feel like I haven’t written in a month! I have been trying to get my blog onto a self-hosted site. It seems to be beyond my computer skill level! I hope to have this all figured out within the week! Stay tuned!!

I am currently on Not Vacation (Leave of Absence) from work. I am taking the next couple of weeks to rest and get some additional therapies in without the stress of work. This also means going through the kitchen cupboards and donating any and all processed foods. I am working on incorporating more fresh foods {which includes those dreaded vegetable things} and less processed. This has not been an easy feat for me. I am so about convenience and less about hours spent in the kitchen. I have been searching the web for healthy, easy to prepare meals. They are out there and they look yummy!

The weight thing is killing me as I worked so hard the last couple years to get rid of Chubby Me. I don’t like being uncomfortable in my clothes. I worked too damn hard to be overweight again. As I see it, I have about twelve pounds to lose. It is my perfect weight. I feel just right, just slightly above norm for my size. I am still maintaining my weight {not gaining, not losing} which makes me happy. I know that due to the fatigue that metabolism is at a stand still.

This rest period also allows me to get some small, less taxing things done. Like setting up a filing system for JJDouglasPaperCo, naps, blogging, naps and of yeah, naps.

If things work out, I will probably get a start on Great 2012 Room Switchover. I use a room template the other day and have the new rooms all laid out. It looks like to will all fit. It is just a matter of getting my brute force over to help get things move. That is a tentative plan.

It has been gorgeous here in the land of the eternal sun. My plans consist of sweeping the porch, washing the DOG and cleaning up the apartment. I have scheduled mandatory nap times too.
