I am off to camp…in a nice convention center …with real bathrooms!  This weekend I am attending my first WordCamp Conference to learn all I can about running a successful blog. I am so excited!!! I will report back later on how this all goes and what I have learned.

I am official, I have a badge!!

I honestly could not remember if I ever introduced you to my furry kids (well, one is wet but he’s still a kid).  They are my comfort and my loves. I honestly don’t think I could have survived the darkest moments of my life without the comfort my pets have given me. They rank just about as high as my family and friends do on my list of things I love the most.

The oldest is Beltaine. A Russian Blue/Siamese mix born on well, Beltaine (Celtic celebration of Spring, May Day). This coming year, he will be sixteen. An ex of  mine picked him out of a litter because he had a snotty nose. He is my little man. He is tenacious and loves to be on my lap no matter what I am doing. Like now for instance, he’s sitting next to me, staring at me as if to say…”get that laptop of your lap, it’s MY space!” Sadly, my first cat Pooh Bear who was B’s companion for 10 years died several years ago. I miss her greatly.

Then comes Isabeau. She is a Snowshoe variety and most certainly is my trouble child. She is curious about everything and smart to boot. I named her after Michelle Pfeiffer’s character in Lady Hawke. This year she will be eleven. I should have called her Horse because she eats like one. I love this little girl and damn, can she make me laugh.

Then we have Hermione. A Yorkshire terrier named after Hermione Gingold from GiGi. I adopted in 2012 from my local animal shelter. I found her online through a pet search and I called because the add had no picture. They told me she had yet to go on view and would be the next day at 11am, I was there by 11:20 and walked out the door a proud mama of a one year old Yorkie. She is adorable and has come such a long way from being the scared little thing to a very vivacious, loving dog. I created a facebook page for her dedicated to promoting the rescue of animals in need of forever homes. If she get’s 1000 likes, my good friend is getting her a steak!

Lastly, and the most camera shy, is George Cinq.  My blue Beta fish…thus named since he’s the fifth beta fish I have had…all named George.  He sits on the sink in my bathroom…away from the mighty hunters called my cats!

In honor of the post today here are a couple of sites I visit on a regular basis for all things pets.

Pretty Fluffy – all about life, style and fluffy pets

The Daily Wag – the daily adventures of Martha Stewart Frenchies Francesca and Sharkey

and for some cat humor, there is Two Lumps

(Hermione asked to remind you to like her page, she really likes steak!)

It has been a week since I implemented the cash envelopes. So far so good. A couple of observations I have are 1) kinda awkward carrying all the envelopes around 2) tracking expenditures is tricky. By the weekend, I had created a log for each  envelope so I could keep track of how much was still in the envelope and how much I spent. Also, since I generally plan out my errands in advance, I took only that specific envelope with me. I just stuck the receipt in the envelope once I was done with the transaction. It made recording it so much easier.

There is a comfort in knowing that I have cash on hand. There is also a greater sense of accountability. I did find myself digging into one of the envelopes to pay for things that was not designated to be spent. Lesson learned. I can’t beat myself up about it, just adjust and move on.

Along with making the envelopes I also signed up for Manilla and Mint.com. Manilla is an online site that pulls all your bills (i.e. cell phone, cable, and subscriptions) and gives you one central location to pay all your online bills. It emails out reminders and keeps you alerted of any discrepancies in your bills.  You tell it what accounts you have, give them your log in for that particular company and then when the bill is due, you can pay it at the Manilla site. Along with that, I added Mint.com.  This site is for all my banking needs, plus keeping tract of my retirement and other assets.

Give it a try and let me know what you think

This past weeks declutter turned out pretty good. I only had less than 1 pound of trash to take out after I was done going through the shoe rack, closet and dresser. There are currently four bags of  donations waiting to take to a local thrift shop! After my last bit of donations from the kitchen challenge, I decided to list out and give a value to the items I am giving away.  Also, I am learning to take my items to a store I don’t visit very often. It’s a hoot when I am visiting GW and see something I gave to the store!

I am using Salvation Army’s on line list of donated good values. My total value for donated items from this weekend is $114.84

There was a 50% off day at GW this past weekend. I didn’t go but instead started a project list of items that either need to be cleaned, painted or re-purposed. It is my goal to show you the things I do with all my thrifty finds. May end up as Thrifty Daze Thursday!

I also ended up re-purposing a vintage frame to store my earrings. I now have a place for my earrings and it adds a bit of charm to my dresser. I used left over shelf liner from the Kitchen ReDesign and taped down the sides to the glass. I inserted it back into the vintage frame and set it on the dresser.  I think it works very nicely with the rest of my decor.

I apologize in advanced for the poor quality of the photos. I am a noob to this!

In the copious amount of free time I have, I read blogs….dozens upon dozens of blogs. Again I say, I love Google. I use the Google reader to review all the various blogs. I add about two to three blogs to my reader each week. Yeah, the reader could average about two hundred new posts per day. Do I read every single post? Um, it depends. There are a few that I save for later, especially if it pertains to Etsy or green ideas. Some of the posts are mostly full of pictures which I do review and pin to Pinterest if it truly captures my eye.

This week I wanted to share the love with the small business blogs I review. Take a look at these gifted bloggers.

Handmadeology ~ the go to blog for all things pertaining to  small business crafters

The Boss of You ~ everything a woman should know about being your own boss

Everything Etsy – This sister site to Handmadeology, the title speaks for its self

Just Love.ly Things – Great resource for information on branding your business

design*sponge – The Biz Ladies section is valuable source of information about doing business on-line

Happy reading!!

Baby steps, it’s all about the baby steps. I have my new and highly improved spending plan completed. I utilized the budget forms found on Dave Ramsey’s site. I re-vamped my personal spending plan to include the envelope system for items like hair cuts, clothes and dining out. I have it to the penny on each pay period. Granted, the figures are based on a basic, non over-time paycheck.

I also made new cash envelopes from a printable I found through Pinterest.  Check out this site for the download. I made them using my papers on hand. Printed out a nice font and glued the label unto the envelope. These fit perfect into a little clutch I carry in my purse.

Payday is just a couple days away. This new budget will be put to the test!!

I had some great posts all planned out in my blog content folder, but it just didn’t happen. The adrenal issue was strong this week and it was all I could do to get through work and then home to crash. My beautiful BFF was so sweet and picked up after me so I didn’t have to worry about cleaning this weekend.

I can only explain what this diagnosis feels like by comparing it to the Titanic. Yea, you are sailing along eating, drinking, merry-making and then SLAM! ICEBERG!! Outta nowhere comes the fatigue and the other various symptoms. You pretty much are left with gripping a lifeboat or drowning in a the abyss of Addison’s.

By grabbing a life boat, the changes will come slowly and eventually you will get picked up again by taking care of yourself, resting and doing things that add to your overall good health. I am now a vitamin taking, super green foods eating, converted healthy chick. I know my mom got a kick out of me FINALLY taking me vitamins!!

So the progress not only on the blog has decreased but also my 2012 ReDesign Challenge. My kitchen is still looking good but I have decided to do a bit of switch on the plans for my bedroom and my office. I will be placing the majority of the bedroom items into the office and then vice versa. I find that with the focus on making my envelopes, I really need some space for supplies and working. Since it just me at this juncture of my life, I really don’t need much in my bedroom. I am moving the bed and dresser into my smaller room. Leaving the “master” to be my home for JJDouglasPaperCo HQ!

So while I am waiting for my beautiful BFF -slash- temporary roommate to close on her house I am mainly going through closets, dressers and my desk supplies to weed out the items I can donate or trash. I also have some awesome finds that I will be sharing under separate posts. There a quite a few things that I can’t wait to show you. Like the ten-dollar sofa and the four-dollar side table that will now be the office sitting area.

Doing stuff in spurts and resting when I feel it’s necessary is making me feel productive and not such a lazy ass. This is my rebellion against what is going on and I know my priority is to rest! All I gots to say is, Thank goodness for FlyLady or my home would be in chaos.

With that said, I am off to do thirty minutes of timed declutter of my dresser…au revoir
