I am starting a new weekly series called Pick of the Week. I have dozens upon dozens of blogs and websites that I view everyday. I am probably late on the blogging train but I am sure I will catch up to the coolness soon enough.

My blog obsession started with DesignSponge just about a year ago. I love decorating, as you may already figured out, and this site it packed full of beautiful photos. They showcase artists, artwork, city shopping guides and awesome DIY projects. For us entrepreneurs, they have a specific post about once a week called Biz Ladies. It has great information on how to price your work, time management and using social media to improve your sales/branding, etc.

Take a look at the category Living In where they take a movie (like White Christmas) and then give you links to where you can buy items inspired by the movie! How cool is that??

It is a fantastic site to visit everyday! Enjoy!

I love Christmas, but I hate wrapping presents. So much so that I put all the Christmas presents on top of the washing machine so I would be forced to wrap before I could clean my clothes. I end up with paper cut too short, wimpy bows and lackluster presentation.  So, this year I did it my way.

Not one present was wrapped! Thank heaven for tissue paper and gift bags! My living room is now awash with tissue paper and festive bags.  No more chasing the cats as they steal yet another bow off a present. Best of all, I am all done, done, done!

Just seven more days!!!!

I leave you with this….my favorite Christmas song from the Waitresses

Christmas Wrapping

NeW YeArs!

I can not believe, as usual, that the new year is just a couple of weeks away. Time does fly (whether you are having fun or not!). I am spending a quiet afternoon reading magazines and finishing wrapping the presents. I am heading out on Friday to spend the Christmas holiday with my family. I am looking forward to spending time with them since we didn’t get much time at Thanksgiving. All the shopping for the family is complete!

I am not going to use 2012 to do the same old resolutions…diet, exercise…etc. That is something I should be doing anyway! So, I am going to work on four goals. 1) Bankruptcy 2) 2012 ReDesign Challenge and 3) This blog! and 4) My Etsy Shop!!!!

Within the next couple of weeks I will be finalizing the outline for what the 2012 ReDesign Challenge will entail. I am really looking forward to this challenge and blogging it all to show you the progress.

Bankruptcy…yea, that is going to be rough. Reality is, I suck when it comes to money and I am drowning in my own financial mismanagement. I know that are going to drastically change for me over the next few years. I have to concentrate on learning recovery just like any addict would. And yes, there is a group for that!

I am still very new to blogging and am still learning how to navigate WordPress! I picked up some books today at the library and will be attending a WordCamp event in February to get even more education. I have only recently turned this blog into it’s own domain. I think it is time for the next step.

And lastly, growing my Etsy shop. Someone please order something!!! lol

So my friends, what changes are you making in 2012??

Nothing better about staying home sick than updating the blog. I seem to have caught a seasonal sinus infection and combined with the adrenal fatigue…I am just wiped out. I am piled high with blankets and pillows, permanently ensconced on my sofa. Between watching Nate and Martha, drinking tea and squeezing saline into my nose, I thought I would do a bit of a catch up on my blog.

Besides, I promised I would introduce you to my Etsy project. Let’s start with the back story…who doesn’t love a back story.

Just about a month ago I was watching an episode of HGTV’s Great Rooms called Born Again Bohemian. It was an episode show casing a young couple with a wonderful loft space in Chicago. The lady of the house is an art student who was making handmade inserts for her wedding invitations. I thought, “wow, that is cool” and set aside the episode for future reference since it was of a Bohemian style. Then I caught an episode of Nate Berkus about starting a second career. Again, my thought was “wow, that is cool”. I did not correlate the two until I went to bed…and I could not sleep. Ugh! It was one of those toss and turn kind of nights that you know you have to get up and write things down so you can get some rest.

And that is just what I did. Thus began my Etsy project. I created JJDouglasPaperCo. Here is where I share a bit of my quirky past with you. As a child I had an imaginary friend called Jelly Jelly Douglas…so I named my company after him. It’s an inspired thought and I just ran with it. I have have been making handmade envelopes for the past twenty years or so. It was generally as a gift or as an insert to a scrapbook page. And lord knows I have an abundance of scrapbook paper. Thus far I have three sets available and will start adding more. I hope you have the time to check it out. I can use the feedback and any constructive criticism you may have.

I am very excited about this whole process and am learning to embrace the creative side of myself. I have been denying my creativity for far too long. No longer going to hide behind my sisters creativity. We are both wonderful artists…we just have different ways of expressing it!

I am sure you may have also noticed a change in the look in my blog. WordPress has some really unique looks and I thought this was rather awesome so I changed the look once again. Along with that, each year I try to find something that I can buy myself for Christmas. This year, I gave myself my domain for Dragonfly Keep. I HAVE A DOMAIN! I am looking forward to 2012 with this blog. In the coming weeks I will be planning out my 2012 ReDesign Challenge for my apartment and financial life. Since, i have the sniffles today I am probably going to work on the outline and get it ready to introduce to you in the coming weeks.

I hope the Christmas season is full of good tidings and lots of happiness!
